About This Opening

A classical opening where White offers a pawn to gain central control. Not a true gambit!

Why Play It?

Gives White excellent central control. The gambit pawn can usually be recovered.

Key Ideas

  • Control d5 with c4
  • If Black takes, White recovers with Qa4+ or e3-Bxc4
  • Develop pieces to active squares
  • Create pressure on the d-file
