About This Opening
An aggressive hypermodern defense where Black allows White to build a large pawn center, then counter-attacks it. A favorite of Garry Kasparov and Bobby Fischer.
Why Play It?
Black gets dynamic kingside attacking chances. The fianchettoed bishop on g7 becomes a monster once the center opens up.
Key Ideas
- Let White build a big center, then attack it
- Fianchetto the dark-squared bishop to g7
- Launch a kingside pawn storm with f5 and g5
- The e5 break is key in many variations
